How to reach Rajgundha

Reaching Rajgundha was possible only on foot, with trekkers starting from Bara Garan or Billing. However, a new road has made the village more accessible. Though rough and challenging, the route connects Rajgundha with Billing and Barot via Bara Garan.

In the 1950s, Punjab’s Chief Minister, Partap Singh Kairon, visited Rajgundha and directed the construction of a road to connect the village to the rest of the region. Although the road was initially built, it fell into disrepair. In 2022, the road was restored, making Rajgundha again accessible by vehicle.

The road is still in its early stages and is best suited for vehicles with high ground clearance. Sedans and hatchbacks may struggle, but SUVs should manage. The road’s condition can vary depending on the weather, with monsoon rains and winter snow making it sometimes impassable. It’s essential to check the weather and road conditions before planning your trip.

Despite the challenges, the journey to Rajgundha is an adventure, offering raw, untouched beauty at every turn. However, safety should always be your top priority, so ensure your vehicle is well-prepared for the trip.

Staying and Eating in Rajgundha

When visiting Rajgundha, you’ll find two main accommodation options: Zostel and Adventure Valley, offering comfortable stays amidst the stunning landscape. Several campsites are available for a more rustic experience, or you can bring your tent for a closer connection with nature. There’s also the nearby village of Bara Garan, across the river, which offers additional campsites.

Dining options in Rajgundha are limited but sufficient. The two central hotels are the primary places to eat, and a few small shops offer light snacks like biscuits and chips. It’s a good idea to plan and embrace the simplicity of life in this serene village.

Tips and Recommendations for the Rajgundha Valley Tour

Given the limited facilities in the area, it’s essential to come prepared with your supplies as you explore Rajgundha. Respect local customs and traditions to build good relationships with the community. Additionally, practice “leave no trace” principles to help keep the environment pristine for future visitors.
